Lorraine Estelle retires

On 1 January 2025 Lorraine Estelle will retire as Director of Information Power after an illustrious career in the information service landscape. Highlights over the last 5 years include four phases of the Society Publishers Advancing Open Access (SPA OPS) projects to facilitate their successful and sustainable transition to OA book and journal publishing, development of the cOAlition S price transparency framework, launch of numerous open access agreements between libraries and publishers around the world, and innovative work on the more equitable pricing of published products and services and more equitable allocation of costs within library consortia.

In 2022 the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) recognised Lorraine Estelle in its awards for this work and more. The prestigious Contributions to Scholarly Publishing award recognised her achievements and career spanning Jisc; COUNTER; Information Power; Eifl; Think, Check, Submit; and beyond.

As is fashionable and fun, Lorraine will remain Co-Editor of Insights: the UKSG Journal and active with Think, Check, Submit following her ‘retirement’. She is also active in community, culture, and politics in Winchester where she lives.

Alicia Wise will step up as Managing Director of Information Power, and Ruth Jones will join as Director. Ruth has extensive sales, marketing and digital supply chain experience. Ruth has been General Manager of Extenza e-Publishing, Head of Product Development at the British Library, and Global Sales Director for Digital Services at Ingram Content Group which is a leader in distribution, print-on-demand, and digital solutions.

Together the Information Power team – and a team of talented associates brought together as needed for individual projects – has a strategic overview of the rapidly changing information landscape, the important challenges and opportunities this change brings, and decades of combined management experience.
